This New York Time op-ed piece introduces the ‘technofix’ approach to managing the amount of global warming that greenhouse gases will contribute to Spaceship Earth’s atmosphere. One advocate of geo-engineering uses the analogy of chemotherapy for the planet’! The out-of-the-box notion is that to lower GHG emissions sufficiently will be unrealistic therefore seek to change the atmosphere using other intentional technological interventions such as carbon sequestration and adding sulphur to the atmosphere.

Is this an extreme example of human hubris? Here is an item from The Yale Climate Connections site that looks at adding sulphate to the atmosphere to cool the planet – a ‘crazy idea’ but it may be needed!
