The Finnish model of schooling

Pasi Sahlberg is a long-time member of ENIRDELM, the network from which this CASE website has emerged. He has twice given keynote presentations at the annual conference, the most recent in Vantaa in September 2014. He has achieved world-wide status in explaining the Finnish model of schooling and campaigning against the global educational reform movement (GERM) that has imposed business-inspired standardisation, commodification and privatisation of schooling in many countries. This article from the Guardian of an interview with Pasi was written before he moved to Harvard University as a visiting lecturer. It is not  directly linked to Spaceship Earth issues, but has much to commend it for its emphasis of the equity between and autonomy within schools that underpin Finnish education.
