Effective altruism

The above link is to a review by Jeremy Williams of MacAskill’s book on Effectctive Altruism (EA). It is a guide to charitable action which has at its heart five questions that help to maximise the good we can do – questions such as ‘how many people benefit from a given cause, and by how much?’ Or ‘what are the chances of success?

Williams is both praising for the quality of advice to individuals as well as critical of the lack of sufficient emphasis on collective or community action that clearly is needed for the ‘wicked’ problems relating to global-scale predicaments such as global warming that are facing humanity in the Anthropocene Epoch.
