Is War Over? — A Paradox Explained

Published on 9 Oct 2014 – a video by Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

We live in the most peaceful time in human history. Wait, what? Seriously? That can’t be right, there are more wars than ever! Well, no and they’re killing fewer and fewer people, even though the world population is at an all-time high…and the numbers prove it! We explain how we came to this conclusion, and why war might… go away.

Wars between nation states seem no longer to happen and only civil wars now remain. The numbers of victims of armed conflict have diminished hugely since the end of colonialism and the end of wars between nation states. Democratisation, globalisation, international rules that encourage diplomacy and an International Criminal Court for war crimes now exists in the Hague, borders are mostly fixed now since World War II. Things are getting better and we can speak up for peace and democracy to ensure that this progress continues.
